Foundation Enkanto

Stichting Enkanto, a foundation based in Curaçao, Dutch Caribbean, was established in spring 2025 with the aim of facilitating a writer-in-residence programme starting January 2026. This programme offers writers the opportunity to stay temporarily on the island and focus on their literary projects.

By creating a stimulating writing environment for authors, the foundation seeks to promote literary and cultural exchange between Curaçao and the rest of the world, increase the visibility of Curaçao in books and as a destination for creative professionals, and organise activities such as public evenings and workshops for (emerging) writers.

The board of Enkanto consists of Anneroos Reich, José Mendes and Tina Lima, all sharing a love for books.

In practice, the board will serve as the first point of contact for the writers during their residency and will establish and maintain contacts with various cultural partners.

José Mendes, treasurer

My name is José Mendes, and I am the treasurer of Stichting Enkanto. I was born and raised in Curaçao and have been working in the financial services sector for many years. My passions include reading, travelling, art, and culture. With my background in different cultures, I always strive to draw the best from every culture I encounter. My father was from the Portuguese island of Madeira, and my mother was Curaçaoan with a Surinamese father. What fascinates me greatly is the way in which people from different cultures influence one another. It is my aspiration to contribute to promoting Curaçao as an inspiring location for writers to discover and use as a place to create their work.

Tina Lima, secretary

Tina (born 1981) is a legal professional, avid reader, and also enjoys travelling. Within the foundation, she serves as secretary, ensuring a smooth and proper application process.
