Application

We look forward to welcoming dedicated authors to our writer-in-residency programme on Curaçao. To apply, please submit the following via the application form:

1. A work plan and a statement explaining your motivation for applying to the Enkanto residency on Curaçao;

2. An overview of your work previously published by a recognised publishing house and a brief curriculum vitae;

3. A scan of your passport.

4. Please indicate your preferred two-month period (and year) for the residency in your application. The foundation will take this preference into account as far as possible; however, the final allocation of residency periods will be determined through the selection process described below.

Application Procedure

1.

Upon receipt of the application by the foundation, the author will receive an email confirmation acknowledging that their application has been received. The author’s personal data will be accessed exclusively by the foundation’s board, which guarantees that these data will be destroyed as soon as they are no longer needed.

2.

After reviewing the application, the board will contact the author within three weeks to inform them whether a place is available and, if so, about the timing of the residency. Residencies last two months and are scheduled in the following periods: January–February, March–April, May–June, July–August, September–October, or November–December.

3.

Next, a Zoom meeting will be held with the author and board members to discuss any questions, clarify what publicity the author prefers regarding their residency, coordinate how the committed half-days will be scheduled (one will definitely include participation in a podcast), address various practical matters related to the author’s arrival and departure, and answer any practical questions the author may have.

4.

Following this meeting, a list of agreements will be emailed to the author. These terms and conditions are identical to those set out in the declaration, which the author must formally approve and sign. The list will clearly specify the commitments and responsibilities of both the author and Stichting Enkanto.

Selection Criteria

The selection of residents by Stichting Enkanto is based on the following criteria:

The author’s proposed work plan, motivation for the residency, and any connection to our location;

The author’s profile in relation to Stichting Enkanto’s aim to present a diverse programme of authors across the residency cycle, ensuring a varied and engaging representation of different genres, backgrounds, and languages.

For others, it conjures memories of sun-drenched holidays on golden beaches, the crystal-clear waters of the Caribbean Sea and the ever-present cooling breeze. Curaçao offers all this – and so much more.
